I am a lampwork glass bead artist based in Newcastle, Australia. My passion for beaded jewellery began on a working holiday in Canada with a bead loom and tubes of seed beads. Since then the seed beads have been traded in for semi-precious beads, my own handmade glass lampwork beads and sterling silver.
My foray into creating lampwork glass beads began in 2007 with a beginner class at Chockadoo glass studio in Sydney. Following a move to Ireland, I undertook classes with Ruzica Ruane (Cadenza Glass, Dun Laoghaire, Ireland). Now that I am back in Australia you can find me in my studio space at The Creator Incubator (Hamilton North, Newcastle).
I am inspired by colours and forms in nature – shells washed up on a shore, fallen seed pods, a sunset. Examples include my collection ‘Rockpool’ which was inspired by sea urchin shells seen in rock pools on Algoa Bay (South Africa). ‘Country’ was inspired by the intricate colours of the understorey of dry sclerophyll eucalypt forests.
